Good quality, heavy base.
No fumbling in the dark for a switch! I was looking for a nice, modern touch lamp for the bedroom and this did the trick. The shade is an oblong slim shape (think of a banana split dish, upside down) so you can push the lamp all the way to the back of the nightstand and still have plenty of room on the nightstand for other things. The base is reasonably heavy (not sure why it was described as lightweight) so it can't be knocked over and in fact it doesn't move when you touch it. The bulb is a three-way so you touch it once-dim; twice-moderate light; three times-bright! Despite the slim shade the light puts out enough to be used as a reading light while in bed.
